If your’re from around here (Birmingham, AL) or are a fan of Southern Rap then you know about 1017 Brick Squad. For the uninitiated, it all started in Bessemer, AL at a house whose number was 1017. Famed rapper and Birmingham Area native, “Gucci Mane” named his record label after his grandfather’s address. And on October 17th we celebrate “Gucci Mane Day”!

Music, art, and, activism have always been at the center of each Gucci Mane Day. Our first outing was in 2017 in Birmingham’s “Living Room”, more formally known as Railroad Park. With sections of our community feeling excluded and unseen, it was important to have Hip Hop Culture front and center. In 2018, we partnered with Starbucks where we created an entrepreneurship library and provided voting information in addition to live art. Our last installment prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, was focused on making a career out of creativity. It included a beat battle among local producers and an industry insider panel featuring Grammy Award winning producers.
